A Regency Period Decorated Daybed

Width: 75" 191cm
Depth: 28" 71cm
Origination: English

The day-bed couch, with romantic figurative medallions incorporated in its Grecian-scrolled arms, is designed in the French/antique fashion introduced to fashionable reception/dressing-rooms around 1800 and may have been intended to fill an arched and curtained recess.

The arms’ rural medallions relate to the engravings of contemporary novels. In one a seated female figure is attended by a gleaner bearing a corn sheaf, while in the other a pensive seated figure listens while her companion reads a novel. The paintings have great charm and are in wonderful original condition.
