This impressive table has the robust feel so typical of the early Georgian period so heavily influenced by the architect William Kent. Indeed, there are certain similarities between the design of this table and furniture supplied by Kent. In particular, a carved gilt-wood side table supplied by Kent for Devonshire House circa 1733-40 has a strikingly similar leg whilst also using the same Vitruvian scroll motif in the frieze.
