Derry is head of the Apter Fredericks workshop, and has nearly 30 years’ experience in cabinetmaking and restoration. After completing his training, he worked for a number of prominent companies including Sotheby’s and Arlington Conservation, and even spent a few years working overseas in Bermuda.
Derry has worked on numerous important pieces for clients as well as bespoke, commissioned work at Uppark House, Dumfries House, Chatsworth House and the Sir John Soane’s Museum. Derry has a natural interest in the history of the pieces he works on and, as such, loves collecting and using antique tools from his trade.
Derry’s biggest role model was his Dad – a shipwright and children’s entertainer. Thankfully he went down the cabinetmaking path rather than becoming a Punch & Judy man! Derry is married with three rescue dogs and one of his passions is Canicross (off-road running) with his dogs in the Surrey Hills.
